Do This, Not That: Lighting

If you’re like me, you have a hideous light fixture that attaches to your fan and that’s about it. Or maybe some pocket lights, which are not much better. Don’t let yourself fall victim to this horrible lighting! If you’re in a temporary place and don’t have that much money to work with, here are some options for you.

Table lamps. Table lamps EVERYWHERE! I have three separate ones in my room. Instead of using my overhead light, I pop all three of those on when it gets dark and it illuminates my whole room. It also gives a much warmer, softer light than an overhead would.

You can get lamps for cheap at second-hand stores and flea markets and then paint them (base or shade) to suit your style.

Big floor lamps can also light up your room. Check out this DIY copper-legged lamp from Sarah M Dorsey. Floor lamps can be expensive, so this is a great way to snap the style for cheap.

Another cool way to avoid god-awful lighting is to use string lights in a variety of ways. You can wrap them around a cheap ladder to make a make-shift floor lamp.

Or simply just pin them up around your room! These are super cute and relatively cheap, from Target. Illuminate your life today!
